Keeping busy and #GamerGate
I haven’t really had the time to play Heroes of Might and Magic 2 lately. As much as I wish to finish the game for the fourth time, the last mission will have to wait until I find the time to do it properly. Not only have I begun working full time, but my personal life has been pretty hectic in the last few weeks. To make things worse #GamerGate movement continues to be an additional strain to my already limited time and my passionate reading of The Walking Dead comic book series does not help things either. Hopefully with my busy schedual I can finish Heroes of Might and Magic 2 playthrough by the end of this week.
But let us return to the topic of #GamerGate. What is it and what are my thoughts about it?
Well, the way I understand it - it is a consumer revolt against biased and unethical journalism within the gaming industry. For those of us who have been around for a while now, this is nothing new. Gaming journalism has always been corrupt and full of incompetent bafoons who most of the time have no idea what they are writing. However, in August 2014 these inept hacks decided to step up their game, when they collectively began publishing article after article of lies and baseless accusations in order to cover up the Zoe Quinn scandal. Namely, Zoe created a shitty game called Depression Quest and for some "unexplained" reason recieved a bunch of awards and universal praise of the press. It turned out that she was sleeping around with quite a few people from the gaming industry, including Kotaku journalist Nathan Grayson - so when gamers blew the lid on this dirty little secret - almost every single media outlet started branding gamers as women haters, rapists, pedophiles and worse! To add insult to the injury - as of late - they even started pushing radical feminism into gaming and for many of us this was the last straw! Namely, these "journalists" claim they want to see better and more diverse games with better and stronger female roles, but in reality this is nothing more than a smoke screen to hide their corruption and incompetence. Its their way of eliminating criticism by labeling anyone who disagrees with them as a sexist-pedophile-woman-hater. Conversation with these "progressive" journalists usually goes something like this:
Journalist: "Women in this game show too much skin, so the developers must be male sexist pigs who are just catering to patriarchal neckbearded virgins living in their mother's basement! It's no wonder poor Zoe Quinn recieved so much harassment from the gaming community, when developers are teaching children not to respect women by creating this type of content. We need more women in the gaming industry!"
Gamer: "Err... that game was created by a woman and I think artists should decide what to create. If you personaly don't like to look at scantly clad women, just don't buy that game or create one yourself. Also, there is no evidence that games teach children to be sexist."
Journalist: "Aha! You are just saying that because you want to harass women and not be accountable for it!"
Gamer: "That's not what I sai..."
Journalist: "Sexist! Misogynist! Neckbearded shitlord! Rapist! Woman-hater! Pedophile!"
The day when the gaming media decided to attack their own audience.
Let me make one thing absolutely clear here! #GamerGate doesn't have anything against women in gaming! We just reject the ideas pushed forward by radical feminists who claim - despite plethora of evidence to the contrary - that the gaming industry is inherently sexist and misogynist towards women. Anyone who is a gamer knows that there are hundreds of strong female characters in gaming and this was never a problem! We believe that gender is irrelevant and we do not want artists being bullied into creating more female characters by propaganda and political equity quotas. We believe art should be clean from politics, and if this makes us sexists, then so be it!
Moral crusaders... They never change...
"Art for art's sake" is the message we are pushing forward, while our opposition wants gaming to be this bland place where only games approved by feminist agenda are allowed.
Without spending too much time writing about #GamerGate, I am posting videos from YouTube that explain the whole situation much better than I ever could. Also, there is a great overview of events that you can read on this link here. It is by my account one of the most detailed and objective summaries I managed to come across, so I warmly recommend it.
